Chris Volpe

Executive Director

Dr. Christopher Volpe is the executive director and a founding board member of ScienceCounts. With an academic background in physical chemistry and two decades of private sector experience in marketing and branding, Dr. Volpe is a leading voice in developing data-driven social marketing strategies to foster stronger connections between the scientific community and the general public. Previously, he was the president and co-founder of Prismatic Laser Programs LLC, the nation’s leading provider of STEM-based assembly programs to elementary and middle schools. In his free time, Dr. Volpe is a demonstration pilot of various types of historically significant WW2 aircraft.

Michelle Race

Civic Science Fellow

Michelle Race is the ScienceCounts Civic Science Fellow for Advancing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Public Engagement. Michelle is a science communicator with over five years of experience creating and facilitating educational programs for K-12 and adult audiences, most recently as the Community Science Manager at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. She is passionate about working with her community and is the co-founder of the outdoor recreation group Black Girls Trekkin', an organization inspiring and empowering black women to spend time outdoors, appreciate nature, and protect it. Michelle received a B.S. in Marine Biology from San Diego State University and also holds an M.A. in Biology from Miami University, OH with a focus on connecting underrepresented communities to environmental science and the outdoors. Outside of work, Michelle enjoys listening to podcasts, reading, and learning to sew her own clothes.
